Massage Therapy

Massage is essential maintenance for everyone. Most people wait until they are in pain before they have a massage, thinking it is all about their muscles. However, we know that regular therapeutic massage helps to maintain muscle integrity and posture, provides emotional relief and helps you to manage stress.

To make it easy for you to have regular massage, we provide massage services in our clinic, in your home and on-ward in your hospital room.

Ten good reasons to book yourself a regular massage:

  • Massage feels really good!
  • Promotes release of "feel good" chemicals in the brain such as endorphin (pain control) & serotonin (mood stabiliser)
  • Increases energy - energy used in holding muscle tension is energy that is not available for living life
  • Reduces stress, anxiety, pain & injury
  • Increases circulation
  • Balances nervous system
  • Improves lymphatic drainage & elimination of toxins from the body
  • Stimulates immune system
  • Decreases blood pressure and heart rate
  • Improves concentration and mental alertness

Deep tissue massage relieves muscular tension, releasing tension, improving range of movement and alleviating pain.

Lymphatic drainage massage improves lymphatic and blood circulation, preventing and/or alleviating fluid retention, carpal tunnel-type symptoms, numbness and pain from varicose veins.

Relaxation massage allows you to experience deep, restful relaxation, mental and physical release, improved metabolism and increased wellbeing.

Pregnancy Massage

Pre-natal massage has an important role to play as part of your pregnancy support strategy.

Pregnant women often suffer from neck, shoulder, back and hip pain due to hormonal changes and the increasing physical load. Pregnancy massage helps to alleviate tension and pain, relieves headaches, leg cramps, insomnia, fluid retention, stress and fatigue.

We use specially designed massage tables which allow you to lie safely and comfortably on your belly and back until full term.

Induction Massage is a relaxation massage combined with special essential oils and acupressure applied to specific points of the body related to the preparation of the body for labour.

A good relaxation induction massage can help elevate your natural levels of Oxytocin (the hormone your body naturally produces when relaxed and happy, in love, making love, when you are ready to birth your baby and is the hormone responsible for the intense bonding of mother and baby immediately following birth).  Deep relaxation is important to allow natural stress hormones to reduce and natural ‘birth ready' hormones to increase.

The stimulation of acupressure points during your induction massage can assist in supporting natural body processes that are underway during the final stages of pregnancy such as encouraging the descent of the baby into position, dilation of the cervix and facilitation of uterine contractions.

Induction acupuncture is also an option at this time.  Some women choose both induction massage and acupuncture, though not necessarily on the same day.

Post-natal massage can help in your recovery from birth and relieve tension and stress in both new parents.  In the care of our experienced practitioners massage is safe and advisable whichever form your birth has taken, be it natural vaginal, assisted, induced or caesarean.  Massage will assist swelling and sore muscles as well as providing emotional space and relief.  Many new mums find massage helps ease tension and soreness from using different muscles during breast feeding, carrying and lifting a new baby.  Massage also provides you with a small window in which to look after your self, relax, unwind and have some space.

Mother Roasting

Mother Roasting is practised in many traditional cultures as part of recovery from birth and to help with the demands of early mothering. Based on Chinese Medicine principals, it involves massaging and warming specific areas of the new mothers body to restore energy and to ensure the digestive, liver and kidney energy systems, and the woman's spirits are recharged.

This practice takes different forms in various cultures. In Malaysia, a special stone that has been heated in a fire, is wrapped in a cloth and placed on the abdomen. In Thailand, a fire was lit at the mother's bedside, where she would lie day and night rotating her body every half an hour. In the Hopi Indian culture in Arizona, the mother was rested on top of a heated bed of sand and a sheepskin, and then covered well. In all these cultures, during this time she is nurtured, massaged, fed nourishing foods and supported in her recuperation from birth by family helping to care both for her and her newborn.

Mother roasting is performed two weeks after the birth of your new baby, or whenever you feel you can leave your postpartum bubble. Our nurturing practitioners use moxa, hot organic wheat packs and warm towels, warmed oils and warming essential oils to help nourish your Qi and Blood. You will leave feeling renewed, rested, nurtured and balanced - body, mind and spirit!
