Lactation Support

The first six weeks at home with a new baby can raise a lot of issues for new parents. Lactation support is an essential support for many women experiencing difficulties, facing fears about their skills as a parent and learning to cope with the daily demands of motherhood.

Breastfeeding, while completely natural can feel like a learned rather than innate skill. Occasionally, new mothers who breastfeed encounter some difficulties, but less that 5% of women are truly unable to breastfeed their babies. Along with consulting your naturopath, a private lactation consultation will assist you greatly if you are having any trouble with breastfeeding.

Our Lactation Consultant provides consultations in your home, enabling her to observe you in your normal environment. A Lactation Consultant provides support and expert help to resolve breastfeeding or lactation problems, teaches the art of breastfeeding, assists mothers to develop and improve their mothering skills and provides an ongoing support system for the family.

When to make an appointment

You are welcome to have your first consultation before your baby is born in order to develop a relationship with your lactation consultant and allay any concerns you may have ahead of time. You may feel more confident if you have set up a supportive relationship with a known and trusted person ahead of the birth. It will put your mind at ease knowing you have made this important connection ahead of time. Otherwise, call to set up an appointment whenever you feel the need for extra breast-feeding support.
