Post Partum Recovery

The difficulty of caring for a new baby often lies not so much in taking care of your child, but taking care of yourself. And yet your baby relies entirely on you, so your health is fundamental.

This joyous time can also be physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting, as you adjust to the many changes having a new baby brings. The key to getting through the first weeks and months is to find support wherever you can.

All of our practitioners are experienced in supporting women and families at this important time. We can provide a range of natural medicine approaches to nourish and sustain you. We can also help you with emerging problems or difficulties you may experience including:

  • Recovery and healing from the birth
  • breast feeding (low milk supply, cracked nipples, mastitis)
  • sleep deprivation
  • boosting energy levels
  • post-natal depression
  • stress and anxiety
  • weight management
  • belly and skin rejuvenation

Following birth, counselling can support early adjustment or any grief from unmet expectations, or simply fulfill the need to understand your experience.

Where appropriate, you can also be referred to a number of other resources, linking you into other networks, resources and communities for further support, information or contacts.

Our home visit services are particularly beneficial for new mothers and fathers who find it easier to book services in their own home. With a home visit massage, there is no reason to miss out on the benefits of massage as your baby can be brought into the massage if needed. We just roll you onto your side so you can cuddle or feed your baby while the massage continues. This is also an excellent way to learn to relax while you are breastfeeding – and your baby gets the relaxation benefits too!

Our Infant Massage and Lactation Support services are also provided in the comfort of your home

Mother Roasting is practised in many traditional cultures as part of recovery from birth and to help with the demands of early mothering. Based on Chinese Medicine principals, it involves massaging and warming specific areas of the new mothers body to restore energy and to ensure the digestive, liver and kidney energy systems, and the woman’s spirits are recharged.

This practice takes different forms in various cultures. In Malaysia, a special stone that has been heated in a fire, is wrapped in a cloth and placed on the abdomen. In Thailand, a fire was lit at the mother's bedside, where she would lie day and night rotating her body every half an hour. In the Hopi Indian culture in Arizona, the mother was rested on top of a heated bed of sand and a sheepskin, and then covered well. In all these cultures, during this time she is nurtured, massaged, fed nourishing foods and supported in her recuperation from birth by family helping to care both for her and her newborn.

Mother roasting is performed two weeks after the birth of your new baby, or whenever you feel you can leave your postpartum bubble. Our nurturing practitioners use moxa, hot organic wheat packs and warm towels, warmed oils and warming essential oils to help nourish your Qi and Blood. You will leave feeling renewed, rested, nurtured and balanced – body, mind and spirit!
