Birth for Humankind

Fertile Ground Health Group is proud to support Birth for Humankind, both financially, through collecting donations, as well as providing patient care for their clients in need.

Who is Birth for Humankind?

Birth for Humankind is a Melbourne-based non-clinical doula support service for people experiencing disadvantage. They match clients with a volunteer doula to provide free and continuous evidence-based advocacy as well as personal, physical and emotional support in pregnancy and birth. This includes up to three antenatal visits, birth support in hospital, and extended postpartum care in the home.

Their focused support reaches pregnant people experiencing financial hardship, refugees, domestic violence survivors, people with disabilities, people at a high-risk of peri and postnatal mental health challenges and many others – who would otherwise be unable to access trauma-informed and culturally sensitive services.

Birth for Humankind is committed to building a diverse doula workforce and supporting women to develop employment skills. A yearly Doula Training Program can provide a limited number of fully funded training scholarships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to train to provide these much-needed doula services.

Why are we raising money for Birth for Humankind?

They rely fully on public donations to support women and gender diverse birthing people during pregnancy, birth and early parenting. We know we can help!

We’re committing to raising an initial target at $2,200 to support a training scholarship to add a doula to the team!

How can you help?

You can donate directly to Birth for Humankind through our QR code on the front bench in The Melbourne Apothecary (our dispensary and shop-front) or via our fundraising link so we can keep track of our progress.

Funds you gift will contribute to these scholarships training volunteer doulas, as well as assist to recruit and mentor more volunteers to support those in need and improve our clients’ birthing and parenting experiences.

Other ways we are supporting this brilliant organisation and those in need at Fertile Ground.

Fertile Ground Health Group practitioners are also offering a number of consultations on a volunteer basis to support Birth for Humankind clients through pregnancy and postpartum care with naturopathy, osteopathy, acupuncture and counselling. This includes in-person services in our beautiful practice, as well as Telehealth as needed for improved access.
