Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine for Women’s Health

Traditionally in Chinese Medicine, the goal was to help people stay well rather than waiting until illness developed. This philosophy still influences the way many Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners approach care today – supporting overall balance and wellbeing while also addressing current health concerns.

Our practitioners may incorporate acupuncture, cupping, moxa, Chinese herbal medicine and lifestyle support depending on your individual needs and goals.

FAQs

Are acupuncturists medically trained?

Our acupuncturists have a double degree in health science for acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine along with many years of postgraduate study and experience in the field. Many doctors practice and advocate acupuncture and other traditional Chinese medicine, and we have active referral relationships with many GPs, midwives, fertility specialists, obstetricians and other specialist doctors.

How long does it take for Chinese herbal medicine to work?

With Chinese medicine and acupuncture, healing time can vary from person to person. Responses to acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can vary from person to person depending on individual circumstances, symptoms and overall health. Some people notice changes quickly, while others may benefit from more ongoing support over time.

How many acupuncture sessions are needed?

Acupuncture treatments are usually scheduled once a week (occasionally twice for acute or painful conditions) for 4-8 weeks or as directed for your specific needs by your traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. You will be reassessed for an effective response every session.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is generally very gentle and most people are surprised by how fine the needles are. Sensations vary from person to person, but you may notice a mild tingling, warmth, heaviness or dull ache during treatment, while others feel very little at all.

Are acupuncture needles reused?

No. We guarantee all our needles to be single-use and sterile.

Can an acupuncture appointment include cupping?

Yes. You may specify to our practitioners if you wish to be cupped.

Can an acupuncture appointment include moxa / moxibustion?

Yes. You may ask for moxa to be included in your treatment.

How do I prepare for a traditional Chinese medicine appointment?

Our traditional Chinese medicine practitioners will evaluate your tongue, wrist pulse, abdominal pain, breathing and other physical presentations. Please do not scrape or clean your tongue before your appointment. They will also inquire about your health history such as current and historical pain, sleep, energy levels and other symptoms as well as your diet.  You do not need to prepare information about this – your practitioner will guide you. We will send you a brief form prior to your first appointment so you can detail what you are coming in for and hoping to achieve from your treatment. Please bring any relevant medical blood test results, pathology reports or letters from your GP or specialist doctor.
