Once you’re pregnant, your care at Fertile Ground changes with you. Pregnancy can bring a whole new set of questions about food, supplements, symptoms, pathology results and what is safe to continue.
Your naturopath can review your supplements, herbal medicines and nutrition as pregnancy progresses, help you make sense of changing nutritional needs and work alongside your GP, midwife or obstetrician where needed. If you’ve been seeing us for fertility or preconception care, your treatment plan can be reviewed once you know you’re pregnant so that it is appropriate for this new stage.
Acupuncture and massage can also continue during pregnancy. Some people choose more regular appointments at particular stages of pregnancy, while others come when they would like additional care. Your practitioner will talk with you about what is appropriate for you and your pregnancy.
We also care for people through the particularly tender territory of pregnancy after previous miscarriage or pregnancy loss. For many of our patients, those early weeks can carry a complicated mixture of hope and worry, and having practitioners who already know their fertility history can provide valuable continuity of care.
Later in pregnancy, care may include preparing for birth, recovery and the postpartum period. People also come to our acupuncturists for acupuncture and moxibustion when their baby is in a breech presentation, and for acupuncture in preparation for labour and around their expected birth date, alongside the care of their midwife or obstetrician.
There is no standard schedule you have to follow. We’ll talk with you about what is useful for you as your pregnancy progresses.
